Stuart Zipper, editor, TelecomWeb broadband

Stuart Zipper joined the The Telecom Intelligence Group team as editor of TelecomWeb broadband in 2004 from G2 Computer Intelligence, where he was senior editor of Client Server News and of the company’s other publications, which he helped launch. Since then, this award-winning editor has kept watch over TelecomWeb broadband and the daily TelecomWeb news break.

Graduating from Queens College, City University of New York with an unusual combination of a major in Political Science and minor in Electrical Engineering, Zipper was a general assignment reporter for the Long Island Press, leaving in order to enter the military. While serving with the U.S. Army in Vietnam, among other duties he edited his unit’s newspaper, reported and produced a weekly radio show, and functioned as a combat photographer. Following his discharge, Zipper reported for local South Florida daily newspapers while pursuing graduate studies in science, technology and international affairs at the University of Miami’s Center for Advanced International Studies.

In 1975, Zipper left the daily press and joined Electronic News. After serving for several years as the paper’s Miami-based correspondent, he relocated to the Middle East as a foreign correspondent for Fairchild News Service, working as the only foreign correspondent in the state of Israel covering a business beat. He also worked as a part-time night copy editor for the Jerusalem Post.

Returning to the United States, Zipper rejoined Electronic News, eventually holding the rank of senior bureau manager responsible for most of the country.
