Presence Networks Offers IM Jumpstart To Small Biz
U.K.-based Presence Networks Limited plans to give away as many as 5,000 seats free for a year on its new global "LiveWorker" service to help businesses with limited IT resources start using secure instant messaging (IM) and online collaboration tools.
LiveWorker can be downloaded to a PC, BlackBerry or smartphone, or users can connect directly via the Web. Secure gateways into MSN, AOL, ICQ and Yahoo! messengers are standard, although companies can opt to have self-managed control over their own hosted networks and to switch off this feature if they prefer.
To address the fears many IT professionals have about the security of IMing, LiveWorker is fully encrypted and records all chat and transactions. Presence Networks says the service incorporates the latest real-time communications technology with chat, Web meetings and encrypted file transfer.
Business IM is predicted to explode during the next 24 months as companies seek ways to reduce their costs, improve their productivity and gain competitive edge. According to Presence Networks, some analysts even claim IM use will exceed e-mail by 2010 as email is overwhelmed by spam.
CEO Symon Blomfield comments, "British companies are falling some way behind others in using technology to collaborate online, despite research showing there significant business gains to be made including increasing productivity, cutting costs and extending market reach. Our (free) offer will enable even the smallest company to harness the power of this technology in just a few minutes. We hope they will in turn encourage others to join them and jointly create inter-connected, business-quality secure live networks with their customers, suppliers and partners."
Companies can sign up for free seats at http://www.presence-networks.net. The free offer is limited to 10 seats per company for the first 500 to register, and on a first come-first served basis (some conditions may apply).
